Guided Tour at the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site in Essen

Saturday, 14 June 2025Guided Tour at the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site in Essen

Gasometers, blast furnaces and particularly Zeche Zollverein, once the largest colliery in Europe, are visible reminders of the industrial past of the Ruhr area. What was once the heart and backbone of Germany’s coal and steel industry, has undergone an exemplary transformation into one of the country’s most vibrant regions for science and research. Industrial sites have been transformed into exciting venues for cultural events and recreational activities. Come join us on a guided walk at the Zollverein UNESCO World Heritage Site and explore the living history of the Ruhr area first hand. The first part of the tour will start at 11 a.m. and will take approx. 1.5 – 2 hours. Afterwards you can have lunch (at your own expenses). The second part of the tour will start at 2 p.m. and is optional. You may continue with the tour to see the area around the former coking plant, or you can use the afternoon at your own disposal and visit e.g. one of the museums instead.

This is a joined event of the RUB, TU Dortmund and UDE. The number of participants for this event is limited to 12 persons per university.

Please note that to confirm your place, a deposit of 10€ needs to be made. You will receive more information on this after registration.

Registration for this event will be possible until June 11 or until all places are taken.
